April 11, 2001: Archie Thompson nets 13 goals for Australia in their 31-0 victory over American Samoa.
April 12, 1909:West Auckland beat Juventus 6-1 in Italy to win the ‘Lipton Trophy’ a competition sponsored by the tea company.
April 13, 1936: Luton Town reserve half back, Joe Payne, is forced into the first team at centre forward due to injuries in the match against Bristol Rovers. He nets ten goals in a 12-0 victory.
April 13, 1970: Aston Villa are relegated to Division Three but their average gate of 27,345 is the best in the Second Division and they make a £135,000 profit.
April 14, 1956: John Hewie makes his debut for Scotland against England at Hampden Park. It is the first time he has been in the country – he was born in South Africa!
April 14, 1984: Keith Houchen makes his debut for York against Aldershot as a second half substitute. In his short time on the field he scores, misses a penalty and is booked!
April 15, 1967: Ronnie Simpson becomes Scotland’s eldest debutant at 36 years, 186 days v England and helps his side inflict a 3-2 win. It was England’s first defeat since the World Cup final victory of 1966.
