April 11, 2001: Archie Thomp­son nets 13 goals for Australia in their 31-0 victory over Amer­i­can Samoa.

April 12, 1909:West Auck­land beat Ju­ven­tus 6-1 in Italy to win the ‘Lip­ton Tro­phy’ a com­pe­ti­tion spon­sored by the tea com­pany.

April 13, 1936: Lu­ton Town re­serve half back, Joe Payne, is forced into the first team at cen­tre for­ward due to in­juries in the match against Bris­tol Rovers. He nets ten goals in a 12-0 victory.

April 13, 1970: As­ton Villa are rel­e­gated to Di­vi­sion Three but their av­er­age gate of 27,345 is the best in the Sec­ond Di­vi­sion and they make a £135,000 profit.

April 14, 1956: John Hewie makes his de­but for Scot­land against Eng­land at Ham­p­den Park. It is the first time he has been in the coun­try – he was born in South Africa!

April 14, 1984: Keith Houchen makes his de­but for York against Alder­shot as a sec­ond half sub­sti­tute. In his short time on the field he scores, misses a penalty and is booked!

April 15, 1967: Ron­nie Simp­son be­comes Scot­land’s el­dest debu­tant at 36 years, 186 days v Eng­land and helps his side in­flict a 3-2 win. It was Eng­land’s first de­feat since the World Cup fi­nal victory of 1966.
