KEIREN IS ONE TO KEEP FOR OWLS
DEFENDER Tom Lees has urged Sheffield Wednesday to secure goalkeeper Keiren Westwood’s future at the club after their record-breaking defensive effort this season.
The Owls’ 1-0 win over Brentford on Tuesday night saw them equal the club record for most clean sheets in a single season.
Westwood has been so impressive that speculation has begun to link the Republic of Ireland shot-stopper with a move away from Hillsborough.
But former Leeds United defender Lees insists Wednesday cannot allow Westwood to move on if they are serious about a tilt at the Premier League next season.
“Keiren has been fantastic this season,” he said.“He has kept us in a lot of games and has contributed massively to that record of clean sheets.
“He’s had a great season. Hopefully we can keep him for next season. It’s important we keep our best players and he fits into that category.
“The summer for us is about improving and moving forward. It’s crucial we do not lose people and replace them with players who are not as good.
“We need to keep our best players and add to what we have got. If we can do that, hopefully we can take a step forwards.”
