CRAIG HASN’T CUT IT AT POMPEY YET

- By Jamie Holt

PORTSMOUTH striker Craig Westcarr admits his first season at Fratton Park hasn’t been up to scratch.

The 30-year-old had netted seven times in 36 games prior to this weekend since moving from Walsall on a free.

But Westcarr has found starting opportunities limited of late and concedes the season hasn’t gone to plan.

“It has been a disappointing campaign, obviously we know that,” he said.

“Of course I was expecting more. With this squad we shouldn’t really be in this position, it just hasn’t happened this year for certain reasons.

“For me it wasn’t about coming down from the league above. It was about coming to Portsmouth and playing every week, which I thought I could, to my strengths – but it hasn’t happened this year.

“I haven’t played a lot with Matt Tubbs. I’ve barely played in a strikeforce all season!

“I just have to take it on the chin and move forward. I’ll keep working hard and see what happens. We will be looking to get promotion next year, giving everything for whoever is in charge.”
