KARANKA GAMBLE BACKFIRES FOR BORO

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

THEY may have suffered a cruel last-gasp loss at the hands of Fulham but if Middlesbrough show the same fight for the remainder of the season as they did in London, it could still be a fairytale finish for the Teesiders.

Aitor Karanka gambled late in the game and was punished for sending up his goalkeeper as Ross McCormack struck a late winner but the bravery they showed to battle back to 3-3 was evidence they will be a tough nut crack.

Middlesbrough will probably now have to rely on the play-offs to make a return to the Premier League but the quality they possess means it’s still a real possibility.

Fulham played with no fear as their Championship place is now secured and it showed as they finally produced a performance to be proud of in front of their home fans.

Whatever happens over the summer it seems as though Fulham will have a platform to build on as they aim for the Premier League after a season to forget.
