Stanley ready to go-go up

-

MANY thought it was just a careless whisper, but it’s true – Accrington Stanley have renamed the ground the Wham Stadium.

The Reds have agreed a threeyear sponsorship deal worth a bumper £200,000 with plastic storage manufacturers What More UK Ltd and the ground will be renamed under their brand, Wham.

It’s a far cry from last Christmas when Stanley were seeking extra funding and now the Lancashire side will be looking for freedom from League Two.

Lifelong fan and Stanley director David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, the former England cricket coach, said: “I met three guys from Wham on Tuesday, but there was no sign of George Michael or Andrew Ridgeley.

“We would like to get out of League Two and £200,000 can help us develop and grow. It’s a great name, Wham.”
