NATHAN: I’VE GOT TALENT TO BYRNE

- By Joshua Richards

NATHAN BYRNE came through the Tottenham youth ranks with the likes of Harry Kane and Ryan Mason and the winger insists Swindon is the place to be if he wants to join his former team-mates in the big time.

Byrne started his season in perfect style last weekend, bagging a hat-trick as the Robins beat Bradford 4-1.

Having previously played in a more defensive capacity, he is delighted to already be repaying Mark Cooper’s decision to play him in an advanced role.

“To start like that is brilliant for me and the team,” said Byrne. “I love the club and the way we play. If I’m going to be noticed, this is the place.

“I don’t think many scouts will pick another League One team to watch over us because of the style we play.”

Swindon lost in the League One play-off final to Preston last season and midfielders Ben Gladwin and Massimo Luongo left to join QPR.

Now, the 23-year-old is excited about donning the number ten shirt at the County Ground this term for another promotion push.

“I knew ten was up for grabs, it’s my favourite number and a lot of my idols, it’s their number,” he said. “The gaffer gave it to me and hopefully I can repay him.”
