ATANGANA REPRIEVE PAYS OFF

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

IF IT wasn’t for his contract Nigel Atangana would have been a casualty of Paul Cook’s revolution at Pompey – but the midfielder’s new boss likes what he sees.

Few of last season’s players remain after Cook’s summer clearout.

But Atangana has certainly made the most of his reprieve, starting in Cook’s first League Two game in charge – a 3-0 victory over Dag & Red.

Cook said:“It was important to create a new environment and the best way to do it was to remove the lads who had been here.

“Nigel was one of a few that had a contract remaining. I like his energy – there is more from him to come.”
