CARLY TELFORD – The Notts County and England goalkeeper chooses her favourite XI, made up from players she has played with in her career.

GOALKEEPERI Rachel Brown-Finnis – Retired

Brownie was always the keeper that I looked up to when I was starting out and then when we were in the same England squad. If I could get close to the level she got to when she was at her peak I would be very proud.

RIGHT-BACKI Lucy Bronze – Manchester City

Lucy is heading towards being one of the best right-backs in the world. She had a tough time with injuries for two or three years, but she fought so hard to get back and it’s really nice to see how well she’s doing – it’s one of the best stories in the sport.

CENTRE-BACKSI Laura Bassett – Notts County

Ever since I played with her at Leeds I’ve tried to get every boss since to sign her if we’ve needed a centre-back. In the World Cup she showed how good she is and what a leader for the defence she can be when given a chance.

Steph Houghton – Manchester City

We’ve played together from a young age in the England system and she’s shown her class for the Lionesses. She’s still got lots of time on her side and is only going to grow as a player and a leader in a very strong England back line.

LEFT-BACKI Claire Rafferty – Chelsea

I’ve played with Rachel Unitt for Notts County and England and she’s an amazing player but I think I’ll have to go for Raff after her World Cup. She kept some of the best players in the world quiet. She’s also a great character to have in the team.

RIGHT MIDFIELDI Karen Carney – Birmingham

Karen can change a game in an instant – she’s called the wizard for a reason and proved how vital she was coming on for England over in Canada.

CENTRALI MIDFIELDERSI

Jill Scott – Arsenal

She’s got so much energy and enthusiasm, and a few tricks up her sleeve. She’s also a great team player and gives her all to cover as much of the pitch as possible, which we saw in the World Cup.

Kelly Smith – Arsenal

Kelly is easily one of England’s best-ever players. She was great to play alongside and her technical ability was fantastic, especially when dropping into midfield. I would much rather play with her than against her, given her shooting ability.

LEFT MIDFIELDI Eniola Aluko – Chelsea

On her day she is pretty much unplayable with her speed. She’s doing very well, but it’s her work rate that is as impressive as her scoring. I’m not sure we would’ve seen that from her even 18 months ago, but now she’s everywhere – I think I saw her crop up at full-back in the FA Cup Final!

STRIKERSI Toni Duggan – Manchester City

She’s absolutely flying at the moment. I think she was a bit disappointed with her World Cup and not scoring, but she’s come back in style. We’re playing Man City soon and I’ve told her to get those wonder strikes out of the way before she plays us.

Jodie Taylor – Portland Thorns

I grew up alongside her and then played against her when I spent some time in Australia – I was at Perth Glory and she was at Melbourne Victory. We kept in touch when she had a difficult time out of the England team but she just needed the chance to show how good she is – she got it in the World Cup.
