MADD FOR POSH ACE!
Black Cats watching £2m Marcus
PREMIER LEAGUE strugglers Sunderland are among a pack of clubs eyeing up Peterborough’s £2m-rated winger Marcus Maddison.
The Black Cats have been regular visitors to watch the ex-Newcastle trainee plucked from Gateshead last August.
Maddison, 21, had found the net four times in as many games before drawing a blank in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Gillingham.
Sunderland’s top-flight rivals Bournemouth, Norwich and Leicester are also keen and Posh have already paid £300,000 to the Heed, who have a sell-on clause, so will be looking for at least £2m.
Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “Marcus scores spectacular goals and he’ll be the next player we’ve taken from Non-League to go into the Premier.
“If someone offers enough money before Tuesday, then he’ll go. If they don’t, we’ll hang onto him until January and hope he carries on scoring so we get more.”
