CHAM­PI­ONSHIP ri­vals Ful­ham and QPR are eye­ing up an £8mil­lion mo ve for Wat­ford str iker Matej Vy­dra.

The Czech Re­pub­lic star, 23, only joined the Hor nets per­ma­nently this sum­mer from Ital­ian side Udi­nese on a five-year con­tract, with the fee betw ee n Wat­ford and Udi­nese – both owned b y the P ozzo famil y – undis­closed.

Vy­dra had spent tw o loan spells at Vicarage Road, in­clud­ing last term when he hit 16 goals in the club’s pro­mo­tion-win­ning cam­paign.

But he had to w ait un­til Tues­day’s 1-0 Cap­i­tal One Cup de­feat at Pre­ston to make his first start of the sea­son and his in­ac­tiv­ity has alerted clubs who know his track record in the sec­ond tier.

Any QPR mo ve for Vy­dra is likely to be de pen­dent on the big-money sale of Char­lie Austin. Not­ting­ham For­est, Brighton and Hull are also k een on loan moves for the for­ward.

Mean­while, Ful­ham are set to tie up a £2m deal for Wolves de­fender Richard Stear­man, 28.
