THE CURSE STRIKES! Managers of the month lose
THE curse of the Manager of the Month award struck with all its force as Walsall and Leyton Orient succumbed to their first league defeats of the season on a day of shocks.
Walsall boss Dean Smith, pictured, was presented with the Sky Bet League One gong on Friday – but then saw his Saddlers stumble to a shock 1-0 home defeat against Bury, who notched their first three-pointer since promotion.
To add to Walsall’s misery, Gillingham’s 1-0 home win against Doncaster – courtesy of a controversial Jake Hessenthaler strike – allowed Justin Edinburgh’s men to leapfrog them at the top of the table.
O’s boss Ian Hendon took the League Two prize after his side won five out of five in August.
But they crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Exeter – and the manager had seen it coming.
Ahead of yesterday’s game against the Grecians, Hendon said: “I’ve won the Manager of the Month award and we all know what that means!”
Championship winner Chris Hughton must have been glad his Brighton side weren’t playing yesterday because of the international break.
