DAMP SQUIB TURNS INTO ROARING CLASH

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

WHERE did that come from? Just before halftime, you could’ve played a decent game of Chinese whispers at the Proact.

With chances scarce and the atmosphere dampened by Liam O’Neil’s injury, a dull draw or tight victory looked the only likely outcome.

Thank goodness then, for a sensational second half. Chesterfield will be sick to their socks after dominating play and leading 2-0. Had the game finished that way, Wigan could not have complained, especially with Dan Gardner in such sparkling form.

But the Latics - relegated in May - still have Championship quality and it eventually came to the fore. If they can play the way they did in the last ten minutes - with aggression, purpose and pace down the flanks - they will be in contention for an immediate return to the second tier.

If they play with the same turgid disinterest as the first 80, better teams than Chesterfield will take them to the cleaners.
