The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

COVERING the Women’s World Cup was a fantastic experience – the standard of football was brilliant and we got great access to the England team.

They are a joy to speak to and interview. It’s difficult when you’re working with the girls so closely not to become a supporter!

Unlike a lot of English press out there we went to the final too. It meant we had to watch the England bronze medal match with Germany in a square in Vancouver.

I think England would have given the USA a better game in the final than Japan did. But when you’ve got a player like Carli Lloyd producing a hat-trick like she did in the World Cup final, you’re difficult to stop.

We’re getting to the point where the gap between England and the very top isn’t as big. Previously it’s been about Germany and France, but I think we’re contenders to be the best team in Europe.

We’ve still got a lot to do here. Manchester City deserve great plaudits for everything they’ve done with their stadium and the investment they’ve put in.

I think we’re going to see a lot more of Arsenal and I’m hearing whispers they may go full-time. Chelsea and Notts County have great set-ups but instead of talking about a few, we need to be talking about the majority boasting professional set-ups.
