FULHAM’S USA LINKS TEMPT TIM
TIM Ream revealed the fact that Fulham have a long history of nurturing American talent helped him decide to join the London club.
Defender Ream, 27, played European football while on Bolton’s books, but now plies his trade at Craven Cottage after moving across in the transfer window.
The American follows in the footsteps of compatriots Brian McBride, Clint Dempsey and Carlos Bocanegra – to name just a few – who have played for Fulham, and Ream admitted this was a deciding factor in seeing him put pen to paper.
“That was a big sticking point for me, the guys who have come before me, Brian McBride – being a St Louis University guy, myself as well – and Kasey Keller and Bocanegra and Dempsey,” said Ream.
“You look at the guys who have played there and really had successful careers there and it really just felt right.
“With the way they’ve been treated and were welcomed with open arms and had such good careers there, it really helped me make the decision.
“There were a lot of things that go into it: footballing decisions, what they were doing off the field, the type of club that it is, the way it’s run, the way it’s organised.
“But the fact that they had so many Americans that have come before me there really did put it over the top for me.”
