BUCHEL IS APPLE OF BOSS’ EYE

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO -

OXFORD United signed Liechtenstein goalkeeper Benjamin Buchel this week and manager Michael Appleton is delighted to have increased competition within his squad.

Buchel joined Bournemouth in 2012, but was released by the new Premier League side.

The 26-year-old, 6ft 2in goalkeeper has nine caps for his country since making his debut in 2008.

A successful trial at the U’s impressed manager Appleton enough to earn him a contract at the Kassam.

“He’s a good keeper. We’ve seen him play for Bournemouth and been very impressed,” said Appleton.

“Sam Slocombe has done ever so well, but we want him to be pushed all the way, and bringing Benji into the club will certainly do that.”

“I’ve enjoyed my time in England and am really happy to have an opportunity here,” said Buchel.
