NEW signing Haris Vuckic is ready to give his all for Wigan in a bid to get the club back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Slovenian Vuckic arrived at the Latics on transfer deadline day after agreeing a loan switch from Newcastle United.

And after finding opportunities few and far between at St James’ Park, the 23-year-old striker is eager to prove his worth.

“I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

“At Newcastle I haven’t had the chance to play in the first team this season, so I discussed with the manager and with the club what my options would be.

“We agreed that the best thing would be to come to an ambitious club like Wigan who want to get promoted to the Championship.

“That’s the sort of challenge I have been looking to be part of and I’m excited for the season ahead.”

Vuckic is no stranger to going out on loan, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances for Glasgow Rangers last season – and he is hopeful his latest switch can be just as fruitful.

“I really enjoyed my time at Rangers because I played a good amount of games,” he added.

“I was really happy to be playing every week, and I scored goals and helped the team. That’s very much something I’m hoping to do here at Wigan. I want to score goals and help the team win games.

“I like to play football on the ground and attack. That’s exactly what the manager (Gary Caldwell) wants us to do so it suits me really well.

“I want to show him that I can play the way he wants and when I get the chance to I will give my maximum.”
