MATTY’S LEARNING LESSONS
MANSFIELD Town winger Matty Blair admits he is taking inspiration this season from his brother’s battle with a brain tumour.
Ross Blair has been fighting the illness since last year and the ex-Fleetwood man soon realised his on-pitch problems and injury issues paled into insignificance.
He said: “Football isn’t everything; family comes first. I had an attitude of ‘so what?’ I know it might not sound right but not playing was ‘whatever, it’s cool’.”
Blair, 26, was out of favour at the Cod Army and joined the Stags in January. But he played just three games when he suffered cruciate knee ligament damage and has not featured since.
