DREAM TEAM

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

DANIELLE CARTER – The Arsenal forward chooses her favourite XI, made up from players she has played with in her football career.

GOALKEEPER Emma Byrne – Arsenal

She’s a part of the furniture at Arsenal. She’s been here now for 15 years and is still a brilliant goalkeeper. She’s definitely not calm on the pitch – she’s a nutjob actually! She’ll have no problem putting you in your place.

RIGHT BACK Lucy Bronze – Manchester City

I’ve played with her in England youth groups and she’s not only the best in the country now, she’s probably one of the best in the world. She’s got a brilliant engine, is a very good crosser of the ball and has a hell of a shot on her.

CENTRE BACKS Gilly Flaherty – Chelsea

At Arsenal she wore her heart on her sleeve – she’d go in full-blooded for tackles at every opportunity. It’s not a surprise to see how well she’s doing at Chelsea. The kind of player you love on your side.

Steph Houghton – Manchester City

The complete captain. She always has that professionalism about her and can bring the best out in others just by the examples she sets. Though she shot to fame at the World Cup, everyone in the game knows just how good she’s been for a long time.

LEFT BACK Leah Williamson – Arsenal

She’s played in every possible position for us. Though centre midfield is her favoured role, she proved she can play at left-back very well last season. She’s only 18 but makes herself heard in the dressing room and has gone from strength to strength.

CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS Jordan Nobbs – Arsenal

Jordan is always haring up and down the pitch and despite still being so young (22), she’s proved that she’s a born leader as well. She’s got that belief in her own ability and what she can do on the field.

Kim Little – Seattle Reign

She’d do things you never thought were possible. Her technique is unbelievable and she’s a genuine world-class player. And the thing about her is that she’d always deliver – the bigger stage, the better she’d perform for us at Arsenal. It’s hard to believe that she’s still only 25.

Katie Chapman – Chelsea

A beast on the field. I’d go as far as to say she’s like a Rottweiler! It’s never a 50/50 for her, she’d make it at least 70/30 because more often than not she was coming out with the ball. She makes it count in every game.

RIGHT WING Gemma Davison – Chelsea

She’s definitely the best at what she does in England on the wing. She’s got so much pace and an eye for goal. She’s been around for so long and doesn’t get the credit she deserves.

LEFT WING Rachel Yankey – Arsenal

Like Emma Byrne, you have to appreciate exactly how long she has performed at the highest level. When I was just starting and first walked into the dressing room, you’re suddenly with a player you’ve admired for so long and I owe her a lot since then.

STRIKER

Ellen White – Notts

County One of the biggest influences when I was coming through at Arsenal, always happy to give advice. She’s usually one step ahead on the field – her movement is fantastic – and she’s battled back from a serious injury to show what she can do at Notts.
