Stags shine in Sierra Leone

The Football League Paper - - FINAL THIRD -

BELIEVE it or not, Mansfield Town are set to become a popular club in far-away Sierra Leone. The warm-hearted Stags have sent dozens of football shirts and training wear to children in the West African country via 167 Catering Support Regiment of the Royal Logistic Corps.

Schools re-opened in Sierra Leone five months ago after they’d been shut down because of the Ebola outbreak.

The Stags teamed up with the regiment after a brainwave by the club’s operations director Tina Broughton and Stags supporter, Corporal Bryn Evans.

Broughton said: “We were keen to make good use of stock which has been left over from our previous league season and our thoughts turned to people, children especially, who wouldn’t be able to afford material of this quality.

“We hope it can make a difference for some of the children of Sierra Leone, after an unimaginably difficult past year.”
