The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Chris Bailey

QPR could be in for a major shake-up after the international break, according to director of football Les Ferdinand. It follows the club’s mediocre start to the season.

In the wake of last Friday’s 4-0 thumping by Fulham, the R’s were rocked by the news that strikers Charlie Austin and Jamie Mackie face an extended period on the sidelines due to injury.

Despite bringing in 15 players over the summer, in a bid to make an instant return to the Premier League, QPR have struggled so far for consistency.

Ferdinand now admits he is prepared to look at the loan market and has highlighted Fulham’s flirtation with relegation last season, a year removed from the Premier League, as a reason to be concerned.

“We brought in new faces,” he said. “There are people who have had to sit on the sidelines and may now get an opportunity to stake a claim.

“Look at Fulham. They got relegated the year before and nearly went down.

“They understood where they were and we understand where we are.”
