PROLIFIC striker Matt Tubbs struck twice as Portsmouth went top of League Two with an impressive 3-1 win at Cambridge United.
Back in February, Tubbs scored a treble as Pompey demolished the U’s 6-2 at the Abbey Stadium. This time, he settled for two as Paul Cook’s men came from behind in an eventful match to take the spoils.
The victory has lifted Pompey to the summit on goals scored ahead of Plymouth Argyle, who have the chance to reclaim top spot when they visit Notts County this afternoon.
In an incredibly tight division, Oxford United are also level on points with Portsmouth and Plymouth after a 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon, but one goal behind them on goal difference.
There’s also been a change at the head of League One. In a meeting of the top two, Dean Smith’s Walsall overcame Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton Albion to leapfrog them in the table. Liam Kinsella and Tom Bradshaw, from the penalty spot, struck for the Saddlers.
