IT’S not every day you witness the birth of your first daughter AND score your first goal for your new club.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Daniel Pudil was by his wife’s bedside at 5.30am as she gave birth to baby Ella before heading to Hillsborough eight hours later to line-up against Preston North End last week.

With his side a goal up thanks to Kieran Lee, Pudil topped off his dream 24 hours by drilling home from a tight angle to register his first goal for the Owls.

“It’s one of the best weekends of my life” the Czech international said. “I didn’t know if I would be able to play. Everything was a bit of a rush.

“In the morning I went to the hospital and I was there when my daughter was born. I went back to sleep for a couple of hours. In the afternoon I had the medical test at the training ground and I’m really happy I was able to play”.

Wednesday ran out 3-1 winners in the end with Lewis McGugan’s stoppagetime stunner sealing a fourth win on the bounce.
