SADDLERS THROW THEIR WEIGHT ABOUT

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

FOR a top-of-the-table clash, this was fairly devoid of the quality you might expect.

But what quality there was on show came from Walsall.

Judging on this display they have what it takes to mount a genuine promotion challenge.

They have the stingiest defence in the division and always look like nicking a goal or two at the other end, as they did here.

That’s the sort of approach Burton have plotted their route to the top of League One on.

Every game they have won has been by a single goal and there is only so long that could have continued.

You suspected they might be found out at some stage and this proved to be the day.

And Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will need to find more threat in the final third if the Brewers are to have a chance of back-to-back promotions. But for now Walsall boss Dean Smith will not be worrying himself with any of that as his side set the pace.
