MAGUIRE CAN MAKE MILLERS MOVE ON

-

ROTHERHAM United manager Neil Redfearn believes he can build his team around midfielder Chris Maguire.

The 50-year-old was appointed Millers’ manager following Steve Evans’ departure last month.

Before his move to Rotherham, Maguire scored eight goals in 46 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last season – and Redfearn is keen to unlock his ability.

“We have got to open Chris’ mind,” he said. “He has been pigeon-holed as a wide-right player but whatever system we play if we pass the ball and are comfortable in possession, Chris Maguire is the type of player that is going to hurt people.

“I think he knows he needs to be more consistent, we’ve had that discussion, but he also knows he’s a super talent and has got real ability.

“He’s a matchwinner but we have got to see that on a more consistent basis and he knows that, but I am a big fan of Chris Maguire’s.”

Maguire, 26, has featured prominently for the Millers so far this season, but was yet to score going into the weekend.

“There’s more in these players and it is my job to make them better,” he added.
