LATICS’ SHREWD MOVE TO APPOINT GARY...

The Football League Paper - - ADAM VIRGO -

WIGAN have endured a wretched few years, but a 5-0 win over Colchester and an eightgame unbeaten run suggest things are finally coming good.

For me, the turning point was that dramatic win over Chesterfield at the start of September. Two down with ten minutes to go, they absolutely blitzed Dean Saunders’ side and eventually won 3-2.

Prior to that, the goals they’d conceded were absolutely amateur. And as an ex-defender, Gary Caldwell must have been so frustrated.

But Gary’s a great problem-solver. When I was with him at Celtic, he was always someone who studied the game and explained it very, very well. You don’t get all those caps for Scotland and play in the Champions League without an understanding of the game.

The way he’s turned things around proves that and I’m convinced he’ll go on to bigger and better things.

CLEVER: Gary Caldwell
