RECOGNITION FOR BEST OF BRITISH
THE shortlist for the FIFA Women’s World Coach of the year award was announced on Monday and includes four British nominations.
Mark Sampson, Laura Harvey, Colin Bell and John Herdman are all up for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award thanks to their impressive achievements this year.
Sampson guided the England ladies to third place in the World Cup this summer after a 1-0 win over Germany in the bronze medal play-off.
Seattle Reign coach Harvey receives recognition after guiding the side to consecutive National Women’s Soccer League finals, while Bell enjoyed club success, winning the Champions League with FFC Frankfurt in May.
Canada’s national manager Herdman also enjoyed a successful World Cup as the hosts reached the quarter finals, only to be beaten by Sampson’s England.
Elsewhere, Chelsea have been drawn against Wolfsburg in the last 16 of the Champions League after beating Glasgow over two legs.
The WSL1 winners will face the German side at home in the first leg (to be played on 11/12th November) and will travel to Germany the following week.
