THE short­list for the FIFA Women’s World Coach of the year award was an­nounced on Mon­day and in­cludes four Bri­tish nom­i­na­tions.

Mark Samp­son, Laura Harvey, Colin Bell and John Herd­man are all up for the pres­ti­gious Bal­lon d’Or award thanks to their im­pres­sive achieve­ments this year.

Samp­son guided the England ladies to third place in the World Cup this sum­mer af­ter a 1-0 win over Ger­many in the bronze medal play-off.

Seat­tle Reign coach Harvey re­ceives recog­ni­tion af­ter guid­ing the side to con­sec­u­tive Na­tional Women’s Soc­cer League fi­nals, while Bell en­joyed club suc­cess, win­ning the Cham­pi­ons League with FFC Frank­furt in May.

Canada’s na­tional man­ager Herd­man also en­joyed a suc­cess­ful World Cup as the hosts reached the quar­ter fi­nals, only to be beaten by Samp­son’s England.

Else­where, Chelsea have been drawn against Wolfs­burg in the last 16 of the Cham­pi­ons League af­ter beat­ing Glas­gow over two legs.

The WSL1 win­ners will face the Ger­man side at home in the first leg (to be played on 11/12th Novem­ber) and will travel to Ger­many the fol­low­ing week.
