The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Ben Baker

STRIKER Aiden O’Brien is hoping he and Millwall can carry their October form forward after being crowned League One Player of the Month.

O’Brien was in red hot form for the Lions in October, scoring three times in the league which included a double against Sheffield United in a 2-1 win at Bramall Lane.

The 22-year-old’s form has coincided with Millwall climbing up the table to seventh as they lost just one of their six league games last month.

And O’Brien, who was hoping to fire his side past Non-League AFC Fylde yesterday and into the FA Cup second round, wants the Lions to continue roaring as the League One season progresses.

“It is a great moment for me to win this award but I wouldn’t have been able to without my team-mates,” said O’Brien, who beat off competition from Coventry’s Adam Armstrong, Bradford defender Reece Burke and Jon Taylor of Peterborough for the award.

“We have managed to start climbing up the table in recent weeks and it is always good to play your part by scoring goals.

“Quite a few of the lads have been chipping in so far this season, which is always important, and hopefully that will continue.

“October was a good month and we need to carry on playing in the same way.”

And Millwall manager Neil Harris believes O’Brien fully deserves the plaudits currently coming his way.

“It is a fantastic achievement for young Aiden to win the Player of the Month award,” Harris said.

“We have had a real upturn in our performances with some great results of late and Aiden’s form has been a big part of that.

“He is a terrific young man, a real infectious character, and he players with desire and enthusiasm. We are all witnessing his ability at the moment.”
