CARDIFF RETURN POSSIBLE FOR JAY
MUCH-TRAVELLED former England striker Jay Bothroyd wants to return to Cardiff during the winter in order to maintain his fitness as the Japanese domestic campaign draws to its conclusion.
The 33-year-old scored 45 goals in three seasons before leaving Cardiff for QPR in 2011.
His colourful career has also included spells with Perugia in Italy and Thai club Muangthong United and he is currently on the books at Japanese second tier side Jubilo Iwata.
But with their season finishing at the end of November, Bothroyd is eying up a shortterm return to Wales.
“I’m back at the end of the month, so I’m sure I’ll see more Cardiff games then,” said Bothroyd.
“I might ask Vincent Tan if I can do some training before I return for next season, which starts in Japan in February.”
Ahead of yesterday’s visit from Reading, Cardiff had registered one win in six games and Bothroyd believes the players should stand up and be counted.
“All the top players I played with led by example,” he added. “There are no characters in that dressing room.”
