The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE - By Paddy von Behr

JOEY BARTON knows what it takes to get promoted from the Championship – and believes Burnley can win the league.

The 33-year-old midfielder has gone up with both Newcastle and QPR in recent seasons and his current employers are third in the Championship table, just two points off the summit.

Barton feels the Clarets are strong enough to maintain their charge and ensure he can complete a personal hat-trick.

“I’ve come here because I want to win the league,” said Barton, capped once by England. “That’s a goal for me.

“At QPR we ended up going up via the back door of the play-offs, but I’ve won it with Newcastle and the plan is to win the league again.

“We’re not fashionable, but that’s the way we like it. What we’ve got with this group is very difficult to replicate, difficult to buy in.

“While we haven’t got all the household names that maybe other sides around us have, there’s a quiet confidence within the group.”
