THE Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust has blasted plans to rebrand the Football League next season.

The competition is set to be renamed the English Football League, shortened to EFL for “everyday use”, despite the presence of Cardiff and fellow Welsh outfit Newport County in its three divisions.

Tim Hartley, chairman of the trust, said:“It’s a little bit insulting that both Welsh clubs and potentially many more from lower down the football pyramid will be classed as English.

“The rebranding is factually incorrect and completely unnecessary. Newport and Cardiff are both in the Football League.”
