LOAN cap­ture Do­minic Sa­muel bagged a de­but goal as Justin Ed­in­burgh’s Gilling­ham came from be­hind to beat Bury and seize top spot in League One.

With pre­vi­ous top two Wal­sall and Bur­ton Al­bion not in ac­tion, the Gills made the most of their big chance – but they had to do it the hard way.

Leon Clarke put the Shak­ers ahead in the fourth minute, but Read­ing loa­nee Sa­muel lev­elled two min­utes later and John Egan put the Gills ahead with ten min­utes played. Em­manuel Osad­abe wrapped it up late on.

Coven­try are be­hind the Gills on goal dif­fer­ence af­ter a 3-1 win at Colch­ester, Ja­cob Mur­phy scor­ing twice. It sets up a mouth-wa­ter­ing clash be­tween the Sky Blues and the Gills next Satur­day.

In League Two, Plymouth Ar­gyle con­tin­ued their im­pres­sive form at the top of the ta­ble with a 2-1 win at Jackie McNa­mara’s York City.

Ox­ford United con­tinue to lead the pur­suit af­ter a 1-0 vic­tory against Cam­bridge United, making it a los­ing start for new U’s man­ager Shaun Derry.
