STEVE Clarke insists it was right to consider his options after holding talks with Fulham – but now it’s business as usual back at Reading following his decision to stay.

Clarke, who guided Reading to eighth before the international break, was earmarked to fill the vacancy left by Kit Symons’ sacking.

“It’s been a strange week but I know I’ve made the right decision,” said the 52-year-old. “It wasn’t close. I got permission from Reading to speak to Fulham. We had a chat, I came back in here the next day and I was out on the training pitch working towards the weekend.

“I’m a professional and, if someone’s prepared to pay a certain amount to speak to me, it’s something I’ve got to look at.

“Everybody behaved very well. The club were great. They gave me the go-ahead to speak to Fulham.”
