COTTAGE BUNGLE CREATES LOSERS
AFTER the botched pursuit of Reading’s Steve Clarke, Fulham return to action with tumbleweed blowing through the dugout.
It’s been an embarrassing week for the Whites but, in fairness, they were caught with their pants down by Blackburn’s blitzkrieg appointment of Paul Lambert.
The Scot was Fulham’s No.1 target and had already been sounded out about taking charge. He appeared keen.
Then, determined to snatch the former Norwich boss, Blackburn sacked Gary Bowyer and made a huge play for Lambert. No shortlist, no interview, no messing.
Panic ensued, with Fulham first approaching Nigel Pearson, who rejected their overtures on Tuesday. Then came the hasty, ill-conceived move for Clarke, leading to a will-he-won’t-he fiasco that played out in the national media.
Fulham are still managerless and Reading have been destabilised.
The only people to come out of this looking good are Blackburn’s owners, the Venky’s. And when they are making you look daft, you know it’s been a wretched week.
