The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Thomas McIlroy

ALEX LAWLESS is making a strong claim for a regular spot at right-back for Luton Town, but manager John Still is not willing to pin him down just yet.

Lawless has been engaged in a battle with Sean Long for a starting berth at full-back in recent weeks, impressing for the Hatters.

However, Still has not forgotten what the 30-year-old can offer elsewhere as he looks to maximise the former York City man’s utility.

“We’ve always been aware that Alex can play in that position,” said the manager. “We’re aware he can play wide right, wide left and as a central midfield player.

“Does that do him any favours? Some people might say yes, some people might say no – I’m a yes. It’s a fantastic thing to have.

“Since I’ve been here he’s played a lot of games and his versatility, I think, is a plus, I really do.

“When he’s been properly fit, Alex has been a good player wherever he’s played, so I don’t really have any doubts with that.”

VERSATILE: Alex Lawless
