LUC OUT, JOAO’S JUST GOT GOING!
CARLOS Carvalhal has urged newly-capped Portugal striker Lucas Joao to keep his feet on the ground after his meteoric rise at Sheffield Wednesday.
Joao signed from Nacional over the summer and he’s been a revelation at Hillsborough, with his combination of pace and power up front.
Indeed it’s not just his goals – he scored four in his first 18 games – that has Everton reportedly lining up a January transfer swoop.
The 22-year-old earned his first Portugal cap in a friendly against Russia last week but Carvalhal insists his star striker has only just scratched the surface of his potential.
“I don’t remember a player, over the last few years, going from the second division to the Portuguese national team,” he said.
“But he is not a complete player. He is still learning, but he’s in a good way. It’s been a big jump in a short space of time and he has had to learn a lot of things.
“He has the ability, he has everything to be a top striker. He needs the time, not just physically but mentally, to be a very good player.”
