The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Joshua Richards

KEM Izzet admits he would grasp the opportunity if he was offered the vacant manager’s job at Colchester United.

The midfielder, who currently playes for Non-League Needham Market, played 422 league games for the U’s and wants to succeed Tony Humes at the League One club.

It has been suggested by chairman Robbie Cowling that the vacancy will be filled from within the club, but Izzet insists he should be given a chance.

“I’d love to work for Colchester United,” he said. “I’m still a local lad and Colchester is still the first result I look out for.

“My ambition is to one day be a manager, and I think this would be a great start.”

Former U’s legend Karl Duguid is also interested and Izzet says they could form a partnership.

“Both Karl and I talked about it together, and asked ourselves whether we should apply,” Izzet said.

“We have made contact with the chairman, so now we’ll have to wait and see.

“I don’t see myself at anywhere else other than Colchester United.

“It’s where my heart is, and always has been.”

Ambition: Kem Izzet
