The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Chris Bailey

WHILE Friday five-a-side matches might be a bit of fun for most Birmingham City players, Maikel Kieftenbeld is a different story altogether.

Singed from Groningen in the summer the midfielder has garnered a reputation for being a terrible loser – with Dutch expletives galore ringing around the training ground if his side are losing.

For Blues boss Gary Rowett the competitive edge is welcome at a side looking to kick-on from mid-table and says the 25-year-old has quickly established himself as a strong asset at St Andrew’s.

“He’s a horrible loser in training,” said Rowett. “Even in five-a-sides on a Friday where most of the rest of the lads are having a little bit of fun, all you can hear is Maikel shouting in Dutch.

“It’s obviously swear words but I haven’t learned them yet.

“The first couple of days in training you thought ‘wow’. I’ve never seen a player make so many tackles.”

WINNER: Maikel Kieftenbeld
