BROWN WANTS REA TO HIMSELF
THE BALL is in Brighton and Glen Rea’s court, according to Southend boss Phil Brown, after he tabled an offer to keep the on-loan defender at the Shrimpers on a permanent deal.
Rea, 21, is due back at the Seagulls after yesterday’s clash at Doncaster Rovers signalled the last game of his loan spell at Southend.
And though most of his appearances have come off the bench, Brown has made it clear that Rea is a wanted man at Roots Hall.
But Brown also admits Brighton hold most of the cards.
“I want Glen to stay at the football club beyond Saturday,” said Brown. “I would like to offer him a two-and-a-halfyear deal and I’ve told him.
“However, it’s not all down to us and much of what happens is going to be down to Brighton and their manager Chris Hughton because he’s still under contract there until the end of the season.
“There will be a window of opportunity for Glen at Brighton between our matches with Doncaster and Swindon.
“He will be going back there to train so that Chris can have a look at him.
“But the one main thing we have in our advantage is that Glen loves it here.”
