The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Pippa Field

AFTER leading Cambridge United to three league victories from four matches in December, Shaun Derry is convinced his side are ready for anything.

Derry, who took the U’s reins in November, masterminded victories over Plymouth and Dagenham & Redbridge before navigating his way through a 2-1 triumph over Barnet on Monday.

That win saw Derry send his troops out early for the second period as they came from behind to clinch victory – and he believes that spirit will put them in good stead going forward.

“You try everything, don’t you? You try all sorts to get a reaction out of your team,” said Derry.

“Once the players cross that line it’s the leaders we’ve got, the ability we’ve got and I suppose it’s the game plan we try to play with that gets the result. You can lead the lads into a certain area but they get themselves over the line.

“I’m a really, really proud man because over the eight weeks I’ve been here they’ve given me everything.

“There are going to be some tough times between now and the end of the season, and it’s going to be afternoons like Monday that we can look back on and gather strength.”
