EV­ERY­THING seems to be go­ing Mid­dles­brough’s way at the mo­ment – and now they’ve cleaned up in the Sky Bet Cham­pi­onship awards for De­cem­ber.

Man­ager Ai­tor Karanka has been named the Man­ager of the Month while mid­fielder Adam Clay­ton has taken the player ac­co­lade.

Boro picked up 13 points from five games – all against pro­mo­tion ri­vals – and with a goal dif­fer­ence of 7-0.

Karanka said: “It’s a lovely hon­our to have but I think this a re­flec­tion of how well our team is play­ing at the mo­ment.”

Clay­ton, 26, added: “I’m ab­so­lutely thrilled to re­ceive this award. I’m buzzing about it be­cause this is a great league with some very good play­ers.”

In League One, Sh­effield United’s Nigel Ad­kins took the man­ager prize af­ter the Blades gained nine points from nine. Don­caster striker Andy Wil­liams claimed the player award af­ter scor­ing four goals in four games.

In League Two, new Cam­bridge United boss Shaun Derry was re­warded af­ter his side won three and drew one of their four matches.

Portsmouth’s Gareth Evans took the player gong af­ter his four goals from a wide mid­field berth.
