BORO’S AD AND AITOR AT DOUBLE
EVERYTHING seems to be going Middlesbrough’s way at the moment – and now they’ve cleaned up in the Sky Bet Championship awards for December.
Manager Aitor Karanka has been named the Manager of the Month while midfielder Adam Clayton has taken the player accolade.
Boro picked up 13 points from five games – all against promotion rivals – and with a goal difference of 7-0.
Karanka said: “It’s a lovely honour to have but I think this a reflection of how well our team is playing at the moment.”
Clayton, 26, added: “I’m absolutely thrilled to receive this award. I’m buzzing about it because this is a great league with some very good players.”
In League One, Sheffield United’s Nigel Adkins took the manager prize after the Blades gained nine points from nine. Doncaster striker Andy Williams claimed the player award after scoring four goals in four games.
In League Two, new Cambridge United boss Shaun Derry was rewarded after his side won three and drew one of their four matches.
Portsmouth’s Gareth Evans took the player gong after his four goals from a wide midfield berth.
WINNER: Adam Clayton
