£10m Wolves ace is on his way to Howe’s Cherries
WOLVES striker Benik Afobe is the latest Championship star heading to the Premier League – with Bournemouth set to wrap up a £10m transfer.
The 22-year-old joined Wolves for £2m from Arsenal a year ago and has scored 23 goals in 48 appearances for the Midlands outfit.
Wolves say they reluctantly accepted the Cherries’ offer and boss Kenny Jackett said: “It’s a good profit but it’s a miss because he’s our top scorer and it’s now about trying to find forwards that make the difference.”
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: “He’ll bring strength, power and hopefully goals.”
Last week, Birmingham winger Demarai Gray joined Premier League high-flyers Leicester for £3.75m.
Meanwhile, Bolton boss Neil Lennon is set to lose striker Zach Clough, 20, to a Championship rival with Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday linked with a £3m swoop.
“We don’t want him to go because I think there’s a lot more football in him to come and we want to bring him on a bit more,” said Lennon.
“But the circumstances we find ourselves in as a club means that money dictates what we’re doing.”
