TOUMANI ARRIVES AS SAM DEPARTS
LEEDS UNITED boss Steve Evans has likened new signing Toumani Diagouraga to former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira – but the Whites have lost right-back Sam Byram to West Ham.
Byram, 20, signed for the Premier League Hammers on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £3.7m.
Boss Evans revealed the “Sam Byram money is available right now” and Leeds moved quickly to agree a fee with Championship rivals Brentford for Diagouraga.
The 28-year-old midfielder was also wanted by Scotttish club Glasgow Rangers, but he has opted for Elland Road and is set to formally complete the deal on Monday after a medical.
Delighted Evans said: “It’s taken a little while to get there but I’m delighted we’ve got there. I’m grateful to the owner Mr Cellino who’s made this happen.
“We’ve got a boy who’s 6 foot 2, we’ve got a Patrick Vieira-type player. He brings real quality to our midfield.
“There’s no doubt we want to add players who can make a difference, but I can’t succumb to pressure from the outside.”
