JORDAN OBITA was as surprised as anyone to be back in a Reading shirt as early as last weekend.

The 24-year-old leftback suffered a serious knee injury on the training ground in December and potentially faced months away from the pitch.

However, after a rapid recovery, Obita was included for the Royals’ clash with Sheffield Wednesday, helping them to a 1-1 draw with the promotion contenders.

He played the full 90 minutes and now the former England age-group international is eager to kick on.

“It was really nice to be back on the pitch and to contribute to the result,” said Obita.“I didn’t think I would be back this soon, if I’m honest.

“I was back in training for just under a week, then played 60 minutes for the U21s.

“Then I got the call from the manager to say I was playing against Wednesday, which was great.

“It was brilliant to get 90 minutes under my belt.

“After an hour or so, the manager kept shouting across to ask if I was OK, but I just wanted to get that first game out of the way.”
