JACKIE’S BACKING RIORDAN
YORK CITY have boosted their bid to avoid relegation by signing ex-Scotland and Celtic striker Derek Riordan.
Riordan, 33, has signed on for the rest of the season after a trial.
Manager Jackie McNamara said: “He has shown his finishing qualities and it is not so much (about) his overall fitness.
“If he can get a little bit sharper then he could be a quality player for us.”
Riordan has endured a controversial career, but McNamara added: “I think he’s grown up since then.
“He has got kids now. I can see that bit of hunger in him and can he try and finish his career in the right way and help York first and foremost.”
