CLOUGH: EL SELL WAS FINE FOR US

The Football League Paper - - NEWS - By Joshua Richards

NASSER El Khayati’s deadline day departure to QPR robbed Burton Albion of their top scorer, but Brewers boss Nigel Clough is adamant it was the right decision for the good of the club.

The 26-year-old scored eight goals in League One for the Brewers this season, but was eager to join former boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at Loftus Road.

But Clough feels his side has enough to win promotion without the Dutch striker.

“The player wanted to go and that’s crucial,” said Clough.“If you keep him against his will, what sort of frame of mind will he be in?

“But we think it was a good enough deal for the club and we think the squad is good enough. We sat down with the chairman and, if you think it would completely ruin your promotion hopes, you don’t do it. But we don’t think that is the case.

“He’s a smashing lad and goes with everybody’s best wishes. I don’t see us as a selling club, but if an offer comes in for a player to go higher and it’s a good offer, then it’s difficult to turn down.”
