GREGORY HAS LIONS ROARING

- By Joel Lamy

LEE GREGORY scored his 20th goal of a prolific season for Millwall, but boss Neil Harris says there is still more to come from his in-form striker.

Gregory nodded in his tenth goal in 10 games early in the second-half, either side of a Steve Morison double, to make it six wins in eight for the Lions, who are up to fifth in the table.

And Harris was pleased with the way his side had bounced back following a 2-0 home loss to Scunthorpe on Tuesday that put a dent in their good run.

“It’s a good statement of intent from us. A lot of credit goes to the players, they’ve had some criticism,” he said.

“We did not become a bad team on Tuesday night. We played poorly at times but we showed our quality against Peterborough.”

Gregory scored only nine times last season after joining from Halifax but has enjoyed a resurgence this campaign.

“It’s a brilliant achievement, 20 goals at any level,” added Harris.

“He had a slow start to the season because of injury, but he’s on 20 already with 14 games to go and there’s more to come.

“I think Steve Morison got his rewards because of the performances he’s put in, particularly away from home.

“When you catch them in form like you did here they are dangerous.”

In a bizarre start to the match, Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer had to acrobatically head over a 45-yard Mark Beevers back pass, before the hosts began to dominate with Gregory surprisingly volleying over from a few yards out.

The striker then had a shot saved by Ben Alnwick, but he stood the rebound up to the back post where Morison headed in his 11th goal of the season.

Shaquile Coulthirst was one of two half-time substitutions for Posh and he appeared lucky not to receive a red card within a minute of coming on for a late challenge on Jed Wallace.

But a few minutes later Gregory outjumped the home defence to nod in his 10th goal in ten games, before Morison met Ferguson’s corner just after the hour mark to complete the scoring.

The result made it four losses in five league matches for Posh, with consecutive defeats of 4-0 and 3-0 and just two goals in six League One encounters. And boss Graham Westley queried whether his players had the desire to win promotion this season as they fell eight points behind the play-off places.

“Is it possible we’ve got one or two in there, as the season hots up, that are happy being League One players? They’ve fulfilled that bit of their ambition? Possibly so,” Westley said. “And I need a side that’s going to go on the pitch and play with a damn-site more ambition and desire than we showed out there.

“When you sign young players from lower levels, sometimes they come in and they are daunted by things, they are struggling to believe that it’s happened.

“They are happy getting a shirt on their back and going out there and being able to say to people, ‘yeah, I’m a League One player’.

“I don’t want players like that at the club, I want players who want to be Championship players.”
