HOLMES AT NORTHAMPTON’S HEART
NORTHAMPTON look like a team with one foot in League One. They should have been awarded a penalty early on but Chris Wilder’s men did not let that affect the rest of their day as they went in pursuit of records.
They pushed constantly for a winner, but they were let off off the hook by Wycombe’s poor finishing before Danny Rose put the Cobblers in front, a goal which deservedly claimed a 119-year-old club record.
Ricky Holmes was in sparkling form for the home side, creating chance after chance, and he received a standing ovation from a sold-out Sixfields. Northampton now sit ten points clear at the top of the table and in this ominous form, relegation battlers York City must be looking ahead to Tuesday night with some trepidation.
