The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Pippa Field

OLDHAM’S fortunes have picked up since John Sheridan sat in the Boundary Park hotseat, but the Latics manager is keen to deflect the praise on his players.

Sheridan returned for a second spell in charge of Oldham on January 13, and after losing his first two games in charge the club travelled to Scunthorpe yesterday unbeaten in five games.

A run of 11 points from a possible 15 in that time has boosted Oldham’s survival hopes, but Sheridan insists it is the players who deserve the plaudits.

“It’s down to the players as they are the ones that go out and perform on the pitch,” he said.

“They have had a tough time this season but since the day I came in, they have showed me good character, a willingness to work hard and try and get results so it’s all credit to the players.

“I’m not getting carried away because I know what’s around the corner. I’ve just got to stay focused. It’s all about the team.”

PRAISE: John Sheridan
