JACKETT RESCUED BY INSPIRED WOLVES

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

IT WAS a tale of two managers at Molineux and Kenny Jackett emerged from it with the weight lifted from his shoulders after weeks of worries about his future.

In contrast, Derby boss Darren Wassall was left with his position still under scrutiny and a need to steer his side’s promotion challenge back on course. On this evidence, it won’t be an easy job.

Three straight defeats had led to calls for Jackett’s head but his players responded with a gritty performance to grind out a win against the odds and removed any threat of them slipping towards the relegation zone.

Wassall might insist he is not worried about Derby’s league position but this was an uninspired performance from a team which rarely looked like producing a win and extending their improved run of form.

If anything Derby, for all their superior possession, lacked the cutting edge and desire that inspired Wolves to victory.
