The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Paul Eddison

CAPTAIN Adam Chambers insists nothing but automatic promotion will do for Walsall.

They have occupied one of the top two places for most of the season, but headed into the weekend in fourth after last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat by Wigan.

Midfielder Chambers is eager to see the Saddlers climbing back up the table, adamant they have what it takes to be a Championship side next season.

“Given the situation we have been in all season, automatic promotion must be the aim,” said the 35-year-old. “We shouldn’t be thinking about the play-offs at this point.

“We need to get some wins under our belt and get back into the top two.

“We feel confident we are the best side in the league.

“On our day we are a match for anyone and, given the way we’ve played up to this point, I think we deserve to be in the top two.

“But that doesn’t mean anything now. It’s about what we do from this point until the end of the season.”
